In this age of communication, it has become so easy to access information on any subject that all you have to do is sit in front of a computer and type a word into a search engine about the subject you want to learn. Then, with a single touch of a button, millions of pieces of information about that subject appear in front of you. Even though everything is perfect up to this point, it should be acknowledged that there is an incredible amount of information pollution on the pages you come across. It is not always easy to understand which and how much of what you read or hear is true. The fact that we can access information so easily also brings with it the risk of false and inaccurate information misleading and misleading us.
It has not even been 20 years since the internet entered our lives in Turkey. During my student and assistant years at Hacettepe University, I remember spending hours in the library to gather information on a subject, to find studies and articles written on that subject, and getting lost in those thick, dusty volumes called index medicus, as if it were yesterday. At the end of that effort, all I could reach was the name of the article and the information about which journal it was published in, and there is no need to tell you about the struggle I gave to access those articles. Those who lived through those days understand the value of these days much better.
As a physician who devoted many years to organ transplant surgery (liver and kidney) and surgical treatment of liver, bile duct and pancreas diseases, I wanted to share the knowledge I have acquired and the experiences I have accumulated through these pages with you. In this way, I aim to contribute to people reaching the right information, and I will try to answer your questions about these subjects as much as I can. However, I think it is not necessary to remind you that it is often not possible to make a comment without seeing a patient, examining them and examining the necessary tests.
I wish you a healthy and happy life.
With my love and respect,
Prof. Hamdi KARAKAYALI, M.D.
